Advice / Stair Lifts

Sell your used stair lift in the GTA

If you no longer need your stair lift – maybe you’re moving, recovering well, or changing care plans – you might be wondering what to do next. At Access Abilities, we buy back select used stair lifts when they meet specific criteria, so safe equipment can stay in circulation, and you have the support you need for removal, resale, or disposal.

Quick eligibility checklist (what we’re looking for)

We’re currently looking for used Bruno stair lifts that are:

  • Straight units only (no curved rails)
  • Less than 5 years old
  • In good working condition
  • Bruno Elan or Bruno Elite models

Frequently Asked Questions:

Which stair lift models do you buy back?

We’re looking for Bruno Elan (straight) and Bruno Elite (straight) units. These are two of Bruno’s most common straight stair lift models, and they’re widely supported for service and parts.

Do you buy back curved stair lifts?

No, we are only looking for straight stair lift units. Curved systems are custom-built to fit one staircase, which makes reuse and reinstallation much more complex.

Do you buy back stair lifts from other brands?

Our buyback focus is currently Bruno straight units (Elan or Elite) that meet the age and condition requirements. If you have a different brand, you can still reach out – we may be able to point you to safe next steps for removal.

How can I tell if my stair lift is a Bruno Elan or Elite?

Here are a few quick checks:

  • Paperwork: Look for your original invoice, quote, or installation documents. Model names are often listed there.
  • Label/serial number: Many lifts have a label on or near the seat, carriage (the part that travels along the rail), or under/along the rail.
  • A photo helps: A clear photo of the chair and rail usually lets our team identify the model quickly.

How do I confirm whether it’s a straight stair lift?

A straight stair lift rail runs in a single line up one flight of stairs: no corners, no landings with turns, and no winding sections. If your staircase turns, curves, or has pie-shaped steps/landings where the rail bends, it’s typically a curved unit.

What does “good working condition” mean?

“Good working condition” generally means:

  • The lift runs smoothly up and down the rail
  • Seat, belt, armrests/controls, and footrest are intact and functioning
  • No major damage, rust, or missing components
  • The lift hasn’t been stored in harsh conditions or exposed to significant moisture

If you’re unsure, share what you know, and we’ll guide you.

How old can the stair lift be?

We’re looking for units that are less than 5 years old. If you don’t know the exact age, we can often estimate it using paperwork, a serial number, or installation details.

Do I need to have purchased the stair lift from Access Abilities?

Not necessarily. What matters most is that it meets the eligibility criteria and passes inspection. If you do have any purchase/installation records (from any provider), they’re helpful.

How does the buyback process work?

  1. Send us the details:  Share the model (if known), approximate age, and a few photos (chair, rail, and staircase).
  2. We confirm basic eligibility: If it looks like a match (Bruno Elan/Elite straight, under 5 years, working condition), we’ll move to next steps.
  3. Inspection and offer: We’ll confirm the condition and whether we’re able to proceed with a buyback and make an offer.
  4. Professional removal:  If approved, we’ll arrange a safe removal – no DIY disassembly needed.
  5. Next steps: We’ll walk you through what happens next and answer any questions along the way.

Buybacks are always subject to inspection and current demand for eligible units.

How much do you pay for a used stair lift?

Buyback value varies based on factors like:

  • Model (Elan vs Elite)
  • Age (closer to new is typically better)
  • Condition and completeness (controls, seat condition, etc.)
  • Serviceability and current need for that model

Our team will provide a tailored offer after inspecting your unit.

Is it safe to remove a stair lift myself?

We don’t recommend it. Stair lifts are bolted into the stairs and include powered components. Improper removal can damage your staircase, create hazards, or leave electrical issues behind. A professional removal helps protect your home and your safety.
